To me, there is nothing better then coming inside from freezing weather and curling up with hot chocolate and a good book. This is my favorite hot chocolate! It’s creamy, full of flavor, and is the perfect drink for a cold day. (or if your like me, any day)
I will tell you something, when I made this, I was fooling around seeing what crazy things I could put in here, and it came to me. Two words, Ice cream. So I went into the freezer and got some ice cream. This makes a huge difference, and makes everything in life seem better with just a single sip.
You could vary this recipe, and make it peppermint hot chocolate, by adding 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract, and using peppermint ice cream, like I did in this picture.
Once you make this recipe, it’s a never ending cycle of hot chocolate. Man, this thing can really change someones life! One more thing though, what goes well with hot chocolate?? Cookies! Gingerbread cookies!
If you wanted to give this to someone as a gift, all you have to do is mix the chocolate milk mix and the cocoa powder together, and add the chocolate chips. Then all you have to do is to write the quantities of the wet ingredients to add and then write steps to warming. I use this gift a lot, and it is really simple to throw together, and you can decorate the jar of container to make it fancier.
Here is my recipe for homemade hot chocolate:
3 1/4 cups of milk Whisk together the milk and heavy cream
3/4 a cup of heavy cream in a medium saucepan on medium low
1 tbs of unsweetened cocoa powder heat. Let it warm up, and then add the
1 tbs of chocolate milk mix chocolate milk mix and the cocoa powder.
1/4 cup sugar Whisk the mixture until smooth. Add the sugar
3 cups chocolate chips and the chocolate chips and stir until the
3 scoops of chocolate or chocolate chocolate chips are melted. Add the ice cream
chip ice cream and stir until melted and smooth. Pour the hot
chocolate into 6 mugs and top with whipped cream if you want to. I personally like to add candy canes to the mugs, but feel free to go crazy with this step! If you really want to go crazy, marshmallow fluff goes great with chocolate!
Note: If you want to make peppermint hot chocolate, add 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract and use peppermint stick ice cream.
